My heartfelt appreciation also goes out to the former presidents, the 26thboard members, and all the sponsors. It was my honor to do my duties for theassociation.
For thepast two years, we organized and held two international conferences and twoSIGs, which were important milestones for domestic and international networkingamong our members, ELT scholars, and teachers all over the world andpositioning the internationally recognized role of KATE as a professionalacademic association. For this, I would like to extend mydeepest gratitude to all of you who joined us on the conference days, includingall the invited speakers, and theboard members whodedicated extensive time and effort inorganizing and detailing the conferences. We also published eight issues of the English Teaching journal and four issuesof Forum and opened a new journalwebsite to bring easiness in online searching of the journal, as invarious means, including Google Scholar. Incelebration of the 50th anniversary in 2015, moreover, we published acommemorative book on the history of the association, The KATE 50th anniversary book with support of YBM and International Communication Foundation, which isavailable on the official KATE website, and a special issue of the English Teaching journal; whichprovides meta-analyses of the studies published in the journal for the past 50years, as well as a review of English education policies in college entranceexams, assessment, and the national curriculum in Korea. Additionally, we produced the KATE 50th anniversary video withsupport of the English MouMou video team, which is also availableon our website. In the 2015 and 2016 conferences, we had bestpaper and doctoral dissertation awards. KATE further expanded its global networking byestablishing a formal agreement with associations such as FEELTA (Far EasternEnglish Language Teachers’ Association) and started an academic collaborationwith CELEA (the China English Language Education Association). As ourlast task, the 26th board members will have the 9thKATE-Yanbian University Joint Conference on July 18th in YanbianUniversity, China, with a purpose to promote academic collaboration with ChineseELT colleagues.
