President's Message

                                          Byoung-Man Jeon
                                          President, KATE
                                          (Professor at Chonbuk National University)

On August 2 at about 6 P.M., the airplane bound for Inchon took off from Dalian Airport. My business trip to China was nearly over. I wanted to relax and closed my eyes. Yet, I found myself reminiscing over my first year as the 21st president of KATE. Indeed, 2005 was a memorable year.
The year 2005 started with the Winter SIG Seminar/Workshop at Chonnam National University. The 4th Joint SIG was the touchstone of my presidency, and its successful outcome gave me a bright perspective on KATE's 40th International Conference that would be held at Korea University in June. Fortunately, a-year-long preparation for the 40th anniversary conference turned out to be time well spent. Immediately after the international conference in Korea, however, I had to arrange for a trip to China for another conference, the Third International Conference at Yanbian University. The presenters, audience and organizers from  both countries were all convinced that this annual joint conference would further our mutual understanding and reinforce our cooperation.
While I enjoyed remembering those special occasions, I now had to think about the coming events in 2006, such as the Winter SIG Seminar, the KATE Summer Conference, and the KATE-YBU Conference. ‘These annual events, however, must be presented with refreshing programs and new approaches.’ That was what absorbed my thoughts while the airplane was circling over Inchon International Airport.
From 2004 up to now, I have had a great deal of support from the KATE executive committee, as well as all the KATE members. I really appreciate their support, especially KATE members' support dedicated to building up KATE's new identity. Without such an effort, KATE would not be what it is today. So I'd like to say to all the KATE members:

“For 2006 KATE still needs your continuing support. Let us all be a part of the big mosaic that is KATE's future. Thank you.”
