Welcome to KATE 's 40th Anniversary Byong-Man Jeon President, KATE (Chonbuk National University) On June 24-25, we will at last have the KATE 2005 International Conference, ELT at the Crossroads: 40 Years of Teaching, Research, and Service. For this truly memorable occasion to celebrate KATE‘s 40th Anniversary, we started preparing at the very beginning of the 21st presidency of KATE that launched in July, 2004. At the executive committee meetings every month, we have discussed and checked ceaselessly all the possible failings that might prevent us from achieving our goal: The KATE 2005 International Conference should enable the presenters and audience to enjoy themselves at their long-prepared presentations and their long-waited participation. A year ago, we set off the goal, and we have endeavored to accomplish it. Now I 'd like to express my gratitude to the executive committee members for their year-long dedication and efforts to make this conference special. Without you KATE members, however, this conference would never be special. Without your support, this event would never be monumental. Without the contribution made by all the presenters, especially those who will come from abroad, this conference could never be intriguing. Each contribution to KATE made by all of you has become the bricks and beams with which we are now building KATE 's future. Each of you is an asset to KATE to give the 2005 Conference special features. For the KATE 2005 International Conference, we are now adding the final touches, looking forward to seeing all of you at Korea University. Approaching are the Conference Days, time to celebrate. I 'd like to simply ask you to enjoy yourself at the conference and at the party as well. As the saying goes: "One good turn deserves another. " Once more, I appreciate all of your support that has continued up to now, and that I hope and believe will always continue for KATE. |
