제1장 총칙

  • Article One
  • The name of the committee shall be The Korea Association of Teachers of English (herein referred to as KATE) Editorial Board.
  • Article Two
  • In accordance with Chapter Five of the KATE’s Constitution, the Editorial Board shall be considered an integral part of KATE.

제2장 구성

  • Article Three
  • The Editorial Board shall consist of approximately 30 members, including Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editorial Managers.
  • Article Four
  • KATE’s Vice President in charge of editorial work and publications shall serve as Editor-in-Chief for the duration of his or her term of Vice Presidency.
  • Article Five
  • Executive Editorial Managers and other members of the Editorial Board shall be chosen from among the officers of the Standing Executive Board or the KATE’s membership. Their appointment shall be recommended by the President based on proven records of research activities and publications and approved by the Standing Executive Board. The term of office for Executive Editorial Managers and other members of the Editorial Board shall coincide with that of the Standing Executive Board.
  • Article Six
  • Members of the Editorial Board shall be chosen in accordance with the criteria below
    1. Members of the Editorial Board shall represent a wide range of specializations in English language teaching so that submissions may receive quality reviews.
    2. Members of the Editorial Board shall be representative of the professionals affiliated with universities or research institutions in localities covered by the journal’s scope.
    3. Members of the Editorial Board shall represent professionals specializing in primary, secondary, and tertiary English language teaching.

제3장 기능

  • Article Seven
  • The Editorial Board shall determine guidelines for the format, annual publication frequency, and volume of KATE’s journal English Teaching. The Editorial Board shall also constitute bylaws for article review criteria and procedure and establish manuscript submission guidelines.
  • Article Eight
  • Editor-in-Chief shall nominate reviewers for each submitted article. Based on the reviews, the Editorial Board shall make the final decision as to whether each submission is to be published in the journal.
  • Article Nine
  • The Editorial Board’s decisions other than those regarding article reviews shall be effective contingent on the Standing Executive Board’s approval.

제4장 회의

  • Article Ten
  • Meetings for editorial work and publications shall be convened regularly for the timely publication of the journal.
  • Article Eleven
  • A meeting shall be called into order contingent on the presence of a majority of the Editorial Board members, and resolutions shall be considered binding if they are favored by a majority of those present at the meeting.

제5장 논문 심사 기준

  • Article Twelve : Appropriateness and Relevance of Content
  • Appropriateness and Relevance of Content: Each submitted article shall have to deal with theories of English language teaching, critical reflections on practice, experimental research studies, and/or new proposals. Submissions linked with English linguistics, general linguistics, English literature or other related disciplines shall be considered for review only when they present explicit pedagogical implications for the teaching of the English language.
  • Article Thirteen : Creativity of Content
  • Creativity of Content: Submissions shall have to be based on original and creative research whose results have not been published in other domestic and international journals.
  • Article Fourteen : Observance of Manuscript Guidelines
  • Observance of Manuscript Guidelines: Submissions shall have to observe the manuscript guidelines set for the journal.
  • Article Fifteen : Appropriateness of Structure and Development
  • Appropriateness of Structure and Development: Submissions shall have to follow the generally accepted conventions in the field of English language teaching regarding how an article should be structured and its thesis developed.
  • Article Sixteen : Appropriateness of Research Methodology
  • Appropriateness of Research Methodology: Submissions shall have to be based on sound research methodology in terms of research questions, research design, and data analysis.

제6장 논문 심사 절차

  • Article Seventeen : Acceptance for Review
  • Acceptance for Review: Submissions shall be accepted for review until four months prior to the scheduled date of journal publication. Immediately after an article is submitted online, Editor-in-Chief shall complete a form confirming the acceptance of a manuscript for review and send the form to the author(s) by electronic means. However, submissions shall not be accepted for review if they fail to meet the journal’s manuscript guidelines. The dates of publication scheduled for the spring, summer, fall, and winter issues of the journal shall be March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31, respectively.
  • Article Eighteen : Review Requests
  • Review Requests: Editor-in-Chief shall examine submitted manuscripts and classify them according to their fields. Then Editor-in-Chief shall select reviewers for each article and send each of the reviewers “a review request form” and the submitted article. Editor-in-Chief shall nominate at least two reviewers for each submitted article and make sure that the name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s) are removed from the manuscript.
  • Article Nineteen : Review
  • Review: Each reviewer shall review the assigned manuscript and rate it as “accepted for publication,” “to be accepted with revisions,” “to be reviewed after revisions,” or “rejected.” Each reviewer shall have to offer explicit justifications for his or her rating in writing. In the case of suggesting revisions, the reviewer shall give clear directions specifying which parts of the manuscript should be revised.
  • Article Twenty : Reviewer Reports to Editor-in-Chief
  • Reviewer Reports to Editor-in-Chief: Each reviewer shall complete a “reviewer report” and send it to Editor-in-Chief. The reviewer report shall include the reviewer’s remarks, rating, and demands for revisions. The reviewer shall make sure that the reviewer report is accompanied by the submitted manuscript.
  • Article Twenty-One : Editorial Board Meetings
  • Editorial Board Meetings: Editorial Board meetings shall be convened by Editor-in-Chief, and members of the Editorial Board shall go over the reviewer reports. In case that the reviewers of a particular manuscript make conflicting ratings (“accepted for publication”/”to be accepted with revisions” versus “to be reviewed after revisions”/”rejected”), the Editorial Board shall discuss the matter and make the final decision as to the publication of the manuscript.
  • Article Twenty-Two : Notification of the Editorial Board’s Decisions to Authors
  • Notification of the Editorial Board’s Decisions to Authors: Editor-in-Chief shall send to the author(s) the reviewer reports and the manuscript containing demands for revisions. A manuscript which is rated as “to be reviewed after revisions” shall be reviewed for the next issue of the journal if the manuscript is revised by the author(s) and submitted again. The revised manuscript shall go through the same review procedure stipulated herein.
  • Article Twenty-Three : Other
  • Other: Manuscripts either rated as “accepted for publication” or already published in the journal shall be nullified through a resolution by the Editorial Board either if they are found to have been published elsewhere or if unethical conduct by the author(s) has been proven. The Editorial Board shall have the right to refuse to consider future work of the author(s) for review.
